It has been a few days since we got back from the CIPD annual conference exhibition and we wanted to gather our thoughts of the show. We had a fantastic experience and believe the show was a big success. It was great to meet so many new and familiar faces and thank you to everyone who came to our stand.

As we look back on the show, we wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the themes that we encountered when talking to our clients and prospects.

“The number of companies not using the apprenticeship levy”

Many businesses are confused about how to use the levy, but with a limited period of time in which to invest the money, businesses need to take action now or the money will be gone. By not using the levy, companies are passing up on the opportunity to improve existing staff skills and bring new employees on board.

“Apprenticeships are available for everyone”

An Apprenticeship represents opportunity, aspiration and ambition. We believe in apprenticeships because they are one of most powerful motors of social mobility and productivity growth.

Apprenticeships can help raise morale and employee retention. An apprentice is essentially on a course, so there is an added incentive to stick around to complete the full apprenticeship.

If there is an area of your business where a skills shortage is a real issue, as it is with chefs, an apprenticeship scheme could really help.

Overall the CIPD ACE 2017 was a great success – we came away with a huge number of leads but also had some great conversations talking to clients and prospects about what their challenges and business objectives are for the coming years.

We are already beginning to plan what the next show will look like for us and look forward to returning next year for more great conversations with you all.
