There were bronze medals in both the table tennis singles and doubles events for Oliver, following some hard-fought play throughout the competition.

Competition events were held over three days in nine different sports.  A Be bold, be kind, be awesome! campaign was promoted to help challenge young people’s ideas and attitudes towards people with intellectual disabilities, in order to build a more unified next generation.

The Anniversary Games were a celebration to mark 50 years of world Special Olympics and 40 years of the movement in the UK.  The Special Olympics Movement was founded in the USA in 1968 by the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of President John F Kennedy.  Eunice believed that the Olympic ideals of sport could give confidence and hope to people with intellectual disabilities as well as to those who cared for them.  Today, Special Olympics reaches over 4 million athletes in more than 170 countries worldwide and the programme in Great Britain serves 10,000 athletes in 140 clubs.
